This course introduces students to the history of Canada’s international relations in the modern era. It examines Canada’s relations with other countries, the country’s role in the two world wars, the evolution of the Empire-Commonwealth, and Canada’s role and participation in the Cold War and its aftermath. It highlights the shift from a policy centred on western nations and the Commonwealth to one that embraces the broader complexities of the modern world. (Formerly HST 911). Lect: 3 hrs.
