GRA 116 Estimating in the Graphic Arts

Introduction to price list and cost estimating using manual and computerized methods. This course relies heavily on fundamental knowledge learned from courses in premedia, imposition planning, printing, and bindery and finishing. A hands-on approach is used for applying budgeted hourly rates (BHR), standards, materials costs, formulas, markups in producing accurate estimates. Emphasis is placed on the use of accurate specifications, the best imposition and production plan, with consideration to quality, turnaround time and cost efficient use of labour, equipment, manufacturing processes, paper and other materials. Manual, spreadsheet and database (MIS) estimating procedures will be taught. Lect: 1 hr./Lab: 2 hrs.
