BDC 310 Information Gathering and Research Methods

This course will introduce a wide range of research techniques and methodologies used in broadcasting. Topics will include the fundamentals of research, information gathering and story producing for broadcast, sources and credibility, mass audiences and techniques to evaluate broadcast programs including BBM and Nielsen. Research methods to be reviewed will include quantitative and qualitative techniques; survey design; focus group technique; ethnographic, behavioural, discourse and textual analysis; political, economic and institutional research; and experimental design.
