This course offers insights to some of the central questions in the study of politics: Why do countries democratize? What explains differences in the institutions of government? And do these differences matter? What is the relationship between democracy and economic development? We will explore these questions by examining politics in a range of countries both developed and developing. The approach of the course is organized around important themes, not particular countries.
