NUR 850 Research Methods

In this course students will examine the contribution of research to the development of nursing science. They will explore the relationships between research and knowledge; and theory and practice. The focus will be on understanding the components of the research process, in the positivist and naturalist paradigms, as well as mixed methods designs. Students will use computer technology to search the nursing and health-related literature. The ethical conduct of research will be addressed. Students will learn to interpret and critically appraise nursing research studies, applying research findings to practice, and identifying areas for further nursing research. Lect: 3 hrs.
