HIS 510 Museology and Public History

This course explores the history and practice of museology and heritage management in preserving and interpreting the past. Covering the period from the emergence of the first modern museums during the Renaissance down to the present day, it considers such important issues as the contested nature of forming collections, the characteristics of museum-based research, along with exhibits, restorations, public programming, and debates affecting museums, historical organizations, and heritage industries.
