ENG 730 The History of the Book and Publishing

From the invention of the printing press in the fifteenth century to the electronic publications of the digital age, books have been central to the shaping of culture and society. Drawing on bibliographic theory and practice, this course investigates the history of the book from interdisciplinary, transnational, and transmedia perspectives. Subjects include the reception, production, composition, material existence, and social life of books in diverse times, places, and forms. Lect: 3 hrs.
