ECN 629 The Economics of Transition

This course reviews transition from a centrally-planned to a market-based economy. The focus of the course is on the economic history and experience of the former Soviet Union states, Eastern Europe, and China. It reviews the basic structure and operation of state planning as compared to a market economy. The course examines both the theory and empirical evidence of the transition and development paths taken by different countries. Lect: 3 hrs.
