CLD 307 Cognitive Development

This course provides students with an in-depth investigation of theoretical, empirical and practical perspectives in how children think from birth to middle childhood. Theories will be examined critically and evaluated for their contributions and limitations to today’s early childhood classroom. Critical analysis will include a consideration of how theories are tested in current research and how they are applied in education. Topics will include perception and the importance of movement in the development of thinking, symbolic representation, problem-solving and social cognition. Lect: 3 hrs.
