THF 403 Landmarks in Canadian Theatre

A survey of the history of theatre in Canada with an emphasis on landmark plays and the social and economic underpinnings of their production The course briefly examines the colonial and post-Confederation periods, the Little Theatre revolution, Dominion Drama Festival. It then focuses on the post WWII professional companies, the impact of the Canada Council, regional theatres, the so-called alternate theatres of the 1970s, and subsequent developments into the 21st century.
