SWP 920 Addressing Substance Use and Abuse

This course focuses on current best practices in addiction treatment, with an emphasis on linking theory, research and practice. Assessment tools and research-based treatment interventions are critically examined for their relevance and application to diverse client populations. Self-help, alternative treatment approaches and methods of evaluating treatment outcome are also explored. Students will leave the course with core knowledge and skills in applying different treatment approaches to a variety of service settings and contexts. Lect: 3 hrs.
