SWP 919 Substance Use and Abuse

This course provides a framework for understanding fundamental concepts in substance use and critically examining addiction as a social construct. It addresses some key domains in the addiction field, including: underlying theories of addiction, stigma and its impact on diverse populations, pharmacology, screening and case management, Canadian drug policy, prevention and harm reduction. Students will gain a critical understanding of the scope of the addiction field and its relevance to direct practice and social policy. Lect: 3 hrs.
