SWP 910 Queer Theory and Identities

Same-sex affectional and physical expression has rarely been accepted in Euro-centric cultures. Social institutions have explicitly regulated and stigmatized specific sexual/emotional behaviours. The course examines these social dynamics and their consequences for people who express difference. The on-going organizing and strategizing of excluded people and communities is a central theme of the course. Social work responses will be explored with attention to diversity, with the aim of providing inclusive and relevant services. Lect: 3 hrs.
