SOC 605 Canadian Families: Myth and Legal Reality

In everyday life we are bombarded with idealized and romanticized images of what family life is all about. In reality, family life is shaped and constrained by social, economic, and legal forces. This course critically assesses some myths and misconceptions about families and looks at how Canadian laws and policies shape everything from the definition of family to mate selection, child rearing, step families, divorce, and remarriage.
