SOC 473 Classical Sociological Theory

This course offers a critical overview of the formation of theoretical orientations used within the social sciences, including functionalism, conflict theory, feminism, Marxism, and symbolic interactionism. We will study the ideas of individuals who are known as the founders of Sociology as well as those whose contributions have only recently been recognized. The emphasis is on thorough analysis and critical evaluation of a few theories, rather than on a short review of many theories. Lect: 3 hrs. Prerequisite: SOC 104 or SOC 105 Course Weight: 1.00 Billing Units: 1
