In this course we will examine the issue of immigration from the perspective of experiences of immigrants and receiving societies. Broad topics to be addressed include: (i) immigration trends and societal effects, (ii) acculturation, ethnic identity, and cultural conflict, (iii) causes, forms, and experiences of prejudice and discrimination against immigrants, and (iv) strategies for promoting acceptance of diversity (e.g., multiculturalism).
