PPA 125 Rights, Equity, and the State

This course provides a critical examination of how the State manages the issue of human rights. It explores the development of human rights through the Charter of Rights and Freedoms; the Canada Human Rights Act; provincial codes; landmark judicial rulings; and the impact of United Nations conventions, covenants and declarations on Canadian state practices. Students are encouraged to situate an understanding of human rights issues within a broader social, political, economic and public administration framework. Lect: 3 hrs.
