POG 442 Women and Comparative Politics

Does women’s politics matter? What kinds of political struggles have women led? To what end? This course explores comparatively how women have mobilized to effect changes in such areas as violence, sexuality, reproduction, work, spirituality, family, culture, and political representation. It assesses the political gains and setbacks experienced by women in Canada and elsewhere, and the complicating impact of factors such as race, religion, immigrant status, Aboriginal status and sexual orientation on those experiences.
