PLE 765 International Development

Increasingly planners are being called upon to do work in developing countries as either urban or developmental planners. This course examines the dynamics of development which should be understood by the planner: the linkage between population, health and development; participation in development planning; human settlements and squatter upgrading; sustainable development; and program planning and evaluation. Case studies are used to illustrate the variety of approaches being used by governments, multi-lateral organizations, and non-governmental groups. Lect: 3 hrs.
