In this course students will examine the contribution of research to the development of nursing science. They will explore the relationships between research and knowledge, theory and practice. The focus will be on understanding the components of the research process, interpreting and evaluating nursing research studies, applying research findings to practice and identifying areas for nursing research. Students will have the opportunity to explore methodologies in both qualitative and quantitative research. Descriptive and inferential statistics and qualitative data analysis will be examined and utilized. Students will use computer technology to search the nursing and health-related literature and to process numerical and non-numerical data. The ethical conduct of research will be addressed. Strategies for critically reviewing, integrating and disseminating research findings to practice will be discussed. Lect: 3 hrs.
