NUC 832 Community Nursing

This course will focus on the role of the community health nurse in working with individuals, families and communities and populations. It will examine in detail current frameworks of illness prevention, health promotion and community development. Nursing roles in a variety of health promotion approaches will be examined. These will include the medical approach, behavioural change strategies, educational strategies, empowerment and advocacy, and social change related to socio-economic environment. The theoretical concepts will be linked to a discussion of current examples of community health programs and research. Lect: 3 hrs.
