MWF 325 Birth and its Meanings

This course explores representations of pregnancy and birth in society and culture, including popular culture and the media; creative arts such as film, literature, visual art, and other cultural expressions. Concepts such as birth as a rite of passage and archetypal images of pregnancy, birth, mothers and midwives are used to understand the social meanings and context of birth for women, families and communities.
