This course addresses the salient elements of statutory intellectual property as well as trade secrets / confidential information. The Course delves both into the details of “traditional” intellectual property, its justification, its abuses as well as the exotic emerging versions, such as rights of personality / celebrity, geographical indicators, traditional knowledge, farmer’s rights and sound and smell trade-marks. The foundation of the course starts with an examination of the relevant international treaties, both the venerable and recent.
