This course introduces students to the regulatory policies governing the environment in Canada, with a focus on the implications for business operations. The discourse of sustainable development aims to reconceptualize the business-environment-society relationship at both the national and global levels of governance. The course critically examines the principles that the sustainability discourse has generated: the internalization of environmental costs through the use of economic instruments; the principle of environmental justice, and the precautionary principle.
