HST 702 The First World War

This course examines the causes, conduct, and outcomes of the world’s first total war. Key themes include pivotal military events, soldiers’ experiences, and, especially, the interactions between the home front and the front lines that distinguished the Great War from earlier conflicts and that shaped its outcome and long-term consequences. Accordingly, the connections between the political, military, social, economic, and cultural dimensions of the war are central topics of study in this course. UL Lect: 3 hrs.
