HST 633 Themes in African History II

What historical dynamics have produced the Africa we know today? How far are today’s problems rooted in the colonial experience? This course examines the history of the continent from the beginning of the colonial period to the present. Some of the themes covered include: resistance to colonial rule, the development of nationalism, class formation, changing gender roles, Africa in the world economy, and democratization movements.
