GEO 513 Physical Geography in Decision Support

The origins of environmental conflicts are investigated from the perspective of geomorphology. The role of data and information in understanding physical processes is traced from field observations to modelling, spatial analysis, prediction, and decision making. Suggested topics include the earth-science paradigm, slope stability, fluvial geomorphology, shorelines, glacial geomorphology, periglacial geomorphology, and conservation land designation. The learning experience is comprised of field observation, readings, lectures, and workshop reports. Lect: 2 hrs./Lab: 1 hr. Prerequisite: GEO 112 or GEO 313 Course Weight: 1.00 Billing Units: 1
