FSN 504 Fashion Culture – Suffragettes to CEO’s

This course will examine women’s revolutionary campaigns and movements. It will discuss the developing role of graphics and related media in the struggle for women’s rights. The course will focus on how women have used graphic images as a means of empowerment to articulate their concerns and beliefs. Areas of study will include the Rational Dress Reform Movement, the suffragette movement and the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU). The course will also explore the visual images of women in revolutionary movements from Maoism to Guerilla Girls and radical activism. Lect: 3 hrs.
