FIN 701 Financial Intermediation

This course gives the student an introduction to the subject of financial intermediation. Each of the four pillars of the financial system is looked at in some depth including the effect of recent changes in the financial system and regulations. Topics include: Why are financial institutions special? How does a deposit-taking institution work? What risks does it face? Some of the risks include liquidity risk, interest rate risk, market risk and credit risk. How are these risks measured and controlled? Lect: 3 hrs.
