ENG 701 Studies in Canadian Literature

How does a national literature reflect on its people? Works studied in this course may include various genres from colonial to contemporary times. Students examine critically Canada’s national identity, as well as issues of language, gender, class, and ethnicity in the articulation of a national culture. This course considers how writers capture and captivate Canada (or not) in the imagination, and may examine literature in relation to film, music, and criticism. Lect: 3 hrs.
