ENG 413 Colonial and Postcolonial Literatures

This course introduces students to one of the key areas of critical interest and debate in English studies, postcolonialism, and invites them to reflect upon and discuss the ways in which Empire – in its historical and present day manifestations – shapes “third world” or the “developing” world’s relationship with the West. It also familiarizes students with some of the most exciting and politicized theoretical debates in the discipline. Lect: 3 hrs.
