ECN 707 Economics of International Trade

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the theory and practice of international economics. The factor proportions theory of trade is explained, and the evidence supporting it examined. Major emphasis is placed on the “new international economics” and its implications for Canadian trade policy. The issues surrounding free trade with the United States are examined, as well as the perceived need for interventionist industrial policies. Lect: 3 hrs.
