CLD 314 Literacy in the Early Years

This course examines literacy learning for children birth through 8 years in the context of equity, social justice and diversity. Students examine theoretical foundations of early literacy learning including: ways to develop oral and print literacy, family literacy practices, home languages, book genres, approaches to teaching and learning and strategies for critical literacy. Concepts of multimodalities and multiple literacies are explored to broaden the notion of what is literacy in the 21st century. Lect: 3 hrs.
