ASC 103 The Built Context

Concepts and Themes for Architecture. An introductory overview to the study of architecture and the built environment. Basic concepts, which are universal in most if not all times and places, will be discussed: shelter, protection, convenience, program, setting, light, air, beauty, etc. The role of the architect and of the architectural profession is discussed, as well as the role of the client or patron. Students will develop skills in research and analysis as well as a range of conceptual tools for examining the built environment. Lect: 3 hrs. Course Weight: 1.00 Billing Units: 1
