HIS 107 Colonization, Colonialism, and Independence

This course provides a comparative history of colonialism, drawing attention to the motives behind territorial acquisition, the methods employed to establish colonial control, and the responses to the practice among subject populations, including the forms of resistance leading to independence. It traces the many legacies of colonialism, including the impact of cross-cultural encounters on both rulers and subjects, as well as the ways in which colonialism continues to influence the globe.
